This Section is located at the basement of the Main Library and is responsible for receiving, processing, labeling and availing all library information materials to other sections. The section is also charged with automating the library collections and maintaining an efficient Open Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) System. Within the section is a Bindery Unit where damaged books are repaired. The section is out of bound to non-library staff.
This section of the library is responsible for the selection and purchase of materials or resources. The Kibabii University Library acquires materials in all formats.
The function of the processing section is to set standards that have to be adopted by Kibabii University Library to technically organize and process the informational materials for the library. Information materials are classified using the Library of Congress Classification Scheme (LCC) while cataloguing is done online using the KOHA library Management System.
Kibabii University Library binds selections of its print holdings for the purpose of making the materials available in the original format for as long as needed at the lowest possible cost. Items selected for binding are determined by the relevant Library Department Head, in consultation with the Head Technical Services Division and bindery staff.
This section is charged with the duty of printing, photocopying, spiral binding and Thesis binding at a fee.
