22,000 Volumes of Books to enrich Schools and Community Libraries

As part of corporates social responsibility, Kibabii University has today 12th October, 2022 donated 22,000 volumes of books to 28 schools and community libraries across Bungoma County. The consignments, which were flagged off by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Isaac Ipara Odeo consisted of books in various genres relevant in the administration of primary and secondary schools’ curriculum.

The donation is part of a project under the partnership of Kibabii University and Rongo University and African Library Project. In 2021, the project donated 13,000 volumes to 13 schools. Apart from donating books to schools, the University hosted school librarians, taking them through basic training aimed at imparting knowledge on setting up and running libraries to attract high readership from the school and the community.

In his address, the Vice chancellor lauded the project leaders for their efforts in empowering schools and communities in the noble cause.

“As a way of contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals with regard to education and distribution of knowledge, this donation supports our commitment to promoting literacy levels as well as rebooting the reading culture that is currently facing a decline especially from the younger generation,” he said.
